I always try to attend any flee market especially when the Junk Bonanza comes to town.

The Bonanza is held at Canterbury in Shakopee MN. This time I even paid extra for the first day to get in a few hours early before the made rush began and even then @ 30% of things had sold signs on them, obviously vendors are buying from other vendors. Many of the vendors are local that participate in the Junk event so its alway a great idea to ask the owners of the booths where they are from and get their business card so you can visit their own stores to view more of their items. You will also find that many vendors come from all over the U.S. It is always fun to see their trends, style & designs and whats selling in that part of the country. Many vendors at the show will have a district look or business on the treasured finds they refurbish.

Many Ideas & Choices

The thing is Junk has many stories & history behind each item and people love history, and the stories. Whats even better is to find a way to decorate with these fun unique items. Think out side the box when browsing all the Junk. But believe it or not Junk has a trend. The hip trends right now are old grain sacks being used as fabric, turkish olive buckets being used as light fixtures & lanterns and anything else in that matter that can be wired for a light fixture is hot. The steampunk look, old school roller maps, letters that spell out words, old jugs of any kind, scales, anything metal, and unique tops on tables.

One of my favorite finds was a local dealer called Scout http://sugarscout.com They will do beautiful custom painting on metal chairs as well as adding upholstery to your pieces or on theirs.

Next time you want to attend a flea market keep the following things in mind~
Bring lots of cash, and remember you can always barter down the price or at least try.
Go the first day and early so the good stuff isn’t gone. The last day is not so bad because vendors don’t want to haul things back so you can get better prices.
Plan ahead and bring your biggest vehicle for you never know how big or how much you will purchase.
If you have something in mind plan know the size you need & bring a measuring tape.

And lastly their is so much to look at so plan on a full day, and have fun!
